Joy Proposal Story: Kelsey & Carter

by Cali Pitchel

Kelsey and Carter met at a country bar in Old Town Scottsdale—Kelsey asked (told) Carter he was going to be her two step dancing partner for the night. The rest, as they say, is history.

Joy, happiness, and your health are the true things that matter in life. Without them, where would you be?

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

I didn’t know at the time, but Carter had been planning our engagement since April of 2016. He began working with a jewelry designer to make my ring and set up to have a helicopter chartered for August of 2016, when we took our annual family vacation to Lake Powell. I thought we were taking a helicopter tour of the lake (something we had both always talked about wanting to do), and when we got in the helicopter, the pilot told us we were going to get to stop on the top of Tower Butte.

I didn’t think anything of it and just thought… awesome! When we got out to walk around on top of the rock formation and look at the beautiful views below (we were 5,000 ft above sea level), Carter wanted to go near the edge to take some pictures.

What’s meant to work out will, and what doesn’t work out isn’t a big deal—at the end of the day its about who you are marrying and your life together moving forward.

Reluctantly, I walked over near a landing when he ran back to the helicopter to “grab the camera”. When I turned back around to take a picture, I saw him down on one knee. The pictures were gorgeous!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

I would say how fun and surprisingly easy it has been! Everyone told me how stressful it would be and Carter and I have gotten lucky enough to space out our engagement and wedding so the planning has been fun and slow paced. Taking every minute in and enjoying this step!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I actually don’t know. I am usually a huge checklist person and need everything to be perfect. I thought I would be a total nightmare planning a wedding! I’ve been taking everyone’s advice that it goes by SO FAST and to enjoy this process and the time. What’s meant to work out will, and what doesn’t work out isn’t a big deal—at the end of the day its about who you are marrying and your life together moving forward.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I originally loved how unique the wedding websites looked, and once I dove into what the site offers I knew it would be an easy way to keep everything organized in one area.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I think I only enjoyed it once I used other sites and didn’t have any luck. I would say explore everything the site offers!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

I would say joy, happiness, and your health are the true things that matter in life. Without them, where would you be? Carter and I strive everyday to make joy and happiness the center of our relationship, and I truly think it’s a choice to wake up everyday and be full of happiness and joy.
