Joy Proposal Story: Alex & Mitch

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

Well, he would tell you he met/fell in love with me in undergrad when he was studying at my apartment with my roommate and some friends, but I kind of blew past him. I would say we didn’t meet until we both started medical school together on June 2nd 2015 (on his birthday).

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

He is an introvert. I am an extrovert. So he did a great job getting in touch with his extrovert side for the proposal. My birthday was June 22, he told me we had dinner plans Saturday night the 24th so to “dress nice and be free”. When I texted him that I was ready, he told me to check my mailbox. I found a card that read “in order to get to dinner for my birthday, I would have to go through a little scavenger hunt, first”.
He was there, dressed in a suit, lights dimmed, with flowers and candles.
The first place was where had our first date and a few of his friends were there drinking a beer, they gave me my 2nd card. I went through t a series of locations that were special to us and each location had some of our friends ready with the next card. Little did I know when I showed up on campus where it all started, he was there, dressed in a suit, lights dimmed, with flowers and candles everywhere and our pictures hung up with his best friend playing the guitar and singing to us. He took my hand and we slow danced as he told me how much I meant to him and then, he got down on one knee and the rest is history!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Getting to pick out my bridesmaids! Telling these special girls how much they mean to me, knowing they are going to be with me on this very special day.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Honestly, Mitch. He has been very involved in this wedding planning, he makes a lot of the calls and handles a lot of the planning. For someone who is so laid back, he is really taking charge of this wedding planning!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy is so great because I can put all of my information in one place and all my friends and family can go to one spot to get everything they need.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Make sure you fill out all of the information so people get a chance to share in this very special day with you!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

This means that true joy is not just your wedding but the commitment you make and the person you are spending the rest of your life with. That goes far beyond just a single day, and will hopefully last a lifetime.
