How did the two of you meet?
We met each other for the first time at the Chennai International Airport in India in September 2011, when Abigail flew down to India as part of a missions team, and Benjamin was the team’s guide and translator.
There was no flying of sparks, and first impressions were not the greatest, but those two weeks filled with hours of conversation and shared journeys across multiple towns and villages, formed the foundation of a friendship, that continued even after Benjamin returned to Pennsylvania and Abigail to North Carolina.
Who proposed?
I (Benjamin) drove for 9 hours on a early Saturday morning from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Fayetteville, North Carolina and surprised Abigail at a park, where her sister had brought her on a false pretext.
It is important to carry forward that happiness and good will, and make sure to be a source of joy and comfort to each other for every day of the rest of our life together.
What has been your experience planning the wedding?
Abigail: Wedding planning while being engaged long distance is not for the faint of heart! Talking through the details together and hearing what is important to each of us has been really enjoyable.
We have also started having a weekly phone call to discuss all things wedding. It usually ends up lasting a few hours, but it is well worth it. There are a lot of things that I (Abigail) am working on and have all in my head that Benjamin needs to be updated on each week.
Since we aren’t able to see each other often to discuss the planning details, having that time specifically carved out during the week is super helpful for both of us to stay on the same page. Planning trips to visit each other through our engagement and wedding planning is definitely a priority as well!
