Joy Proposal Story: Brittney & Jacob

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Jacob took Brittney to the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. While they were walking the path that lines the ocean, they stopped at an outlook area. Out of nowhere, one of Jacob’s photographer friends (who Brittney hadn’t ever met) just so happened to be at the same place at the same time! An exchange of hellos happened and little did Brittney know, this was the beginning of Jacob’s proposal to her. Jacob had his friend ask if we would do some “test shots” for the clients he was meeting up with later. Brittney caught on to how weird Jacob was acting but chalked it up to him not seeing this friend for a while. As they were standing on a small cliff overlooking the beautiful ocean, Jacob pulled Brittney in close to him and started proposing to her… then it all clicked! What was really happening and it was all getting caught on camera!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Creating something that is unique to our personalities and the things we love! Brittney is giving their wedding the theme “Ethereal Jewel Garden”, which means a backyard wedding full of earthy decor, like geodes and gemstones, mixed with jewel-toned pops of color and floral! Jacob has a love for entertainment (he’s the singer in his band), so you better believe a quick performance is in the works! Figuring out what yard games to play, and how we are going to create the “bust open your own geode pit” has been a lot of fun planning!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

What exactly is sane?! haha! For Brittney, the second she starts feeling stressed, she takes a moment to look at all the beautiful places in the world they can travel to for a honeymoon! For Jacob, he stays sane by doing one task at a time. They have also noticed throughout this process that if something seems to not be connecting or working out right away, it’s probably time to go down another path. It’s been really interesting to see how everything starts to fall into place once they’ve explored other options for things.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

We love how easy Joy is to set up and all the extras included! Brittney’s family is all back in Minnesota, so the fact that Joy has such a detail travel portion, is amazing!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Make sure you get the exact wedding URL you want to use right off the bat to put on your Save the Dates! Also, instead of directing everyone to multiple different websites, put everything on your Joy account (like a wedding registry). It’s okay if you don’t have all the pages ready to go right away, we hid multiple pages until they were ready to go!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Being able to share such a personal, special day with the people we love most means everything. We have friends and family from all different backgrounds traveling from all over the country to be here with us and we can’t wait to create memories that will last a lifetime with every single one of them!
