How did the two of you meet?
We met in college at Utah State University. He is on the hockey team and I was on the women’s basketball team at the time. Some teammates introduced us on what turned out to be his birthday (he didn’t tell me this until after we started dating!). Anyway, a few months went by and we were both staying over the summer to take classes at USU so our friends suggested we hangout. On our first date, I dazzled him with my rollerblading skills and the rest is history!
Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
It was a cold and rainy Saturday and I had just ran my first 5K with my now bridesmaid Allison. I was recovering on the couch when Ian asked if I wanted to go for a drive through Logan Canyon. By that time, the weather had cleared up and the sun was shining. I thought “what the hell, why not” and so we went for a drive.
Even if everything went wrong on my wedding day, it wouldn’t matter because I would still be marrying my best friend and get to enjoy the rest of my life with him.
We ended up at Bear Lake which is this gorgeous bright blue lake about an hour from our house. Ian found this deserted beach and we went for a walk. We were walking along the beach when he pretended to propose with a sea shell that he found and we were both laughing when he pulled out a ring and actually proposed! (We kept the seashell and it is sitting in my ring box). Of course I said yes!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
Picking the venue. As soon as I saw it, I fell in love with it!
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
Alcohol…kist kidding. My mother and mother-in-law have been incredible with organizing almost everything since we are having an out-of-state wedding and everything has been smooth sailing so far!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?
There’s so many, it’s hard to pick one! I love how I can customize the layout and keep track of everything in one place. I also love that it has an app so I can check and change things on the go. My guests that have signed up love having the app too.
What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?
Ask questions! The lovely team at Joy always respond so quickly if I ever have an issue or question.
At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?
To me it means that even if everything went wrong on my wedding day (which I hope it doesn’t!), it wouldn’t matter because I would still be marrying my best friend and get to enjoy the rest of my life with him.
