Joy Proposal Story: Deyna & Alexander

Joy Proposal Story: Deyna & Alexander

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Alexander chose to do his sacraments to become Catholic and my niece was doing her second sacrament on the same day. We gathered family and friends after church for a BBQ at my mother’s house to celebrate their commitment. Let me tell you first, Alexander is a talker! It started when Alexander’s brother-in-law had music playing on his phone near me. ‘Tale As Old As Time’ by Celine Dion began to play. (Beauty and the Beast has been my obsession since I was a child!) At this point, I turned to look at his brother-in-law and he asked me if I liked the song playing. I responded, “I love this song!” not thinking anything of it. I popped a tootsie roll in my mouth and went back to talk to my friends. While I sat with friends chatting, Alexander began to talk to the crowd. I figured he was just thanking everyone for joining us.

Then, his sister came out of nowhere handing me blue and yellow balloons, as well as a homemade Beauty and the Beast light-up, rose in a glass. I asked her why she was giving it to me. It wasn’t my party! She told me it was “just because” and directed me to stand next to Alexander. I thought, “Okay. I guess I should stand next to him when he’s thanking everyone for coming.” I still hadn’t put anything together. He talked about how fortunate he was for having me in his life as he grabbed my hands. It was at that moment it clicked. I looked at everyone staring and said, “Everyone’s staring at us!” The crowd laughed. He got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was already crying from the anxiety of everyone staring. I answered, “Of course!” I had no idea. It turned out everyone in both our families knew. He couldn’t have done it better than with all my loved ones there!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I take breaks. We have been completely remodeling a house since before the engagement. As you can imagine, both are very stressful! I relax with a book and he goes fishing to unwind. Sometimes if it’s not cold, I will join him.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

It’s simple, clean, and manageable with great assistance.
