Joy Proposal Story: Faith & Martin

by Cali Pitchel

Faith and Martin were both part of the youth group at our church. They’ve been together since high school—9 years! They share their proposal story, how they stay sane during wedding planning, and what it means to have true joy.

What helps me stay sane is remembering the main focus of this celebration—I’m finally marrying my best friend….

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

Faith and I always enjoyed eating poke bowls (if you’ve never heard or tried, you must!) and watching the sunset at the beach. After some scouting, I decided Laguna Beach would be the best option. I found the perfect spot. There was a cliff where our family and friends could stand without being noticed and could watch the proposal unfold. I brought my camera with me because Faith always wanted our proposal recorded. I told her I brought it because I wanted to take pictures of the sunset.

At the right moment, I secretly set the camera to record. I began telling her how much I loved her, how the past nine years have been amazing, that I’ve enjoyed the arguments, the sad moments and of course the happy moments. I then slowly got down on one knee with the ring in hand, I looked her in the eye and asked, “Will you make the happiest man in the world and be mine forever and marry me?”

She said yes and we hugged and kissed. Then, I had her turn around and pointed to the cliff where 30 of our friends and family were cheering us on. She then teared up on that beautiful May afternoon.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

It’s been difficult since Martin is in Arizona for school but it has brought his mom and I closer together with her helping me plan this wedding. Also, I love being able to put my “all things love for design” skills to work!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Cry, cry, cry it out. Just kidding! What helps me stay sane is remembering the main focus of this celebration—I’m finally marrying my best friend whom I know will make life enjoyable. Food is also a plus! Just be careful of stress binging!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The countdown and the easiness of relaying information about our wedding to our guests.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

There are a lot of really cool features, observe the site and see what works best for you.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Once the guests have left, the decorations have been torn down, the trash picked up and the venue cleared out; all that’s left are the memories made and the joy of what’s to come.
