Joy Proposal Story: Hillary & Jeff

Joy Proposal Story: Hillary & Jeff

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We were vacationing with Jeff’s family in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. On the first night, Jeff asked me to go for a walk on the beach to the boardwalk at sunset. I was suspicious that the proposal may happen, so I was nervous with anticipation. We walked all the way down the boardwalk and headed back toward the beach house. About halfway back I was thinking that my radar was off and it wasn’t happening! Shortly after, Jeff asked to sit down on a sand dune to watch the sunset, then I knew it was coming. After sitting and talking for a while, we stood up to get back and Jeff got down on one knee. I was overwhelmed with joy. I started sobbing (more than anyone should appropriately sob for a proposal)! Jeff said some beautiful words and asked if I would be his wife, I exclaimed, “Of course!” and had to repeat myself a few times through the sobs! We were greeted back at the beach house by all the family who knew that the proposal was happening. I sobbed (yet again) and everyone celebrated! We then headed over to see my family, who was also vacationing nearby. It was a perfect proposal, on a perfect night, followed by a perfect week of relaxation!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Putting together my bridesmaid boxes and asking each of my bridesmaids to be in the wedding! It was so fun personalizing each box and making sure that each one was heartfelt. Every one of my girls cried when they opened them, it was really touching!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I know this sounds cliche, but my fiance really keeps me grounded. He is very “go with the flow” and reminds me that in the end, all that matters is that we are married and he is so right!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

The wedding is just the beginning! No matter how the day goes, what matters is that you are married and starting your life together. Remember that a wedding isn’t about “the wedding”, it’s about joining your lives in marriage.
