Joy Proposal Story: Jenny & Jeremy

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

When I was younger a friend of mine in school had visited the Grand Teton’s. He specifically went to a beautiful spot outside of Jackson Hole called Jenny Lake Lodge, during his summer vacation with his family. Being that my name is ‘Jenny Lake’ he brought back a photo for me and it was a place I knew I’d have to find a way to visit one day! Fast forward 20 years when Jeremy and I first started dating, I shared with him this bucket list place of mine that I had always wanted to visit. Little did I know, he made a mental note of it. Jeremy and I love to travel together and he always told me he wouldn’t propose on a trip because that would be too predictable.

Leading up to the proposal, he had told me his friend Mike was getting a rising star award for work and that we were invited to join him in Salt Lake City for the banquet and award ceremony. We arrived in Salt Lake late Thursday night and he told me we would be driving out to a fun place to hike on Friday before Mike flew in and then we would meet Mike and his family for dinner that night. We drove through Bear Lake and stopped for lunch and it wasn’t until I saw the “Welcome to Idaho” sign that I knew something might be up. A little while longer I noticed a Jackson Hole sign, all of a sudden it hit me and I knew where we were going. Jenny Lake was outside of Jackson Hole! I texted my best friend as I talked myself out of the idea that a proposal could happen (I never thought he would travel with the ring!) I knew I would enjoy this sweet surprise and bucket list moment even if a proposal didn’t happen! When we arrived at Jenny Lake I was SO excited to be there, taking lots of pictures that I didn’t even notice Jeremy as he was starting to say sweet things. I asked him why is he being so weird and that he needed to take more pictures and that’s when he grabbed me, hugged me close and started talking about Bailey and that’s when It finally clicked…. I turned and saw him down on one knee!! After a lot of repeated “oh my gosh” I said of course and that’s when he told me his friend was never coming, we weren’t staying in Salt Lake at all, and we were staying all weekend at Jenny Lake Lodge! We celebrated and enjoyed the entire weekend in the cutest and coziest log cabin in one of the most magical and beautiful places I had ever been! It was truly one of the most special weekends of our lives!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Being a calligrapher in the wedding industry, planning and designing our own paper goods has me giddy of course! Visiting Colorado, seeing the venue in person, and trying all the food was so special and fun!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Remembering what it’s truly about. A lifetime of marriage, not just a wedding day. It’s going to be the best day with all of our family and friends in one place so all other details are just cherries on top.
