Joy Proposal Story: Jessica & Jeremy

Joy Proposal Story: Jessica & Jeremy

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Jeremy proposed on Lake Huron at his family cottage, it was a very eventful evening. We were with his family, getting ready to go to a nice dinner at a local restaurant. The family was taking extra long to get ready and Jeremy asked me to go for a walk on the beach. As we were walking we came upon a seagull that was trapped by fishing line. The seagull had a fishermen’s hook in his leg and line wrapped around his neck. I just so happen to have a slightly irrational fear of birds, but we both hated to see an animal suffering. Jeremy grabbed the bird and attempted to remove the hook. The bird was moving too much to get a good grip on the hook. I told him if he held the bird perfectly still I would try. Again, we had no luck. I finally told Jeremy to put the bird out of its misery. We could not leave it there to die a slow death. I turned around telling Jeremy to do it quickly. Jeremy paused. Apparently, he did not think killing a bird right before he got down on one knee to propose would be a good memory. We decided to try one more time. I finally was able to remove the hook, along with some flesh. The next obstacle was freeing the bird from the fishing line. I ran to a nearby house and asked for a pair of scissors. By that time, Jeremy was able to untangle the distraught bird. We released the seagull and watched it successfully fly away! We walked back to the cottage with our hands covered in seagull blood. As we reached the cottage, Jeremy’s dog, Hunter, ran out with a bandana around his neck that said, “Marry my best friend?” Jeremy had champagne set up on the beach. He got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Of course, I said, “Yes!” He said, “I do have a ring in my pocket, but how about we go wash our hands first?” After we washed the blood off our hands he placed the ring on my finger. Needless to say, we will never forget that day, for multiple reasons.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Picking our venue has been the best part! We picked a northern Michigan town right on Lake Michigan with a beautiful overlook of the lake.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

The planning is stressful. We also are in the process of moving to Colorado so I can begin medical school! We do have a lot on our plate right now. I do get stressed out, but I try and remember that it does not have to be perfect. I also focus on making sure Jeremy and I are happy with our decisions, not everyone else.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I love Joy because it helps me stay organized. I am also very artsy and love the design options. I was able to find the perfect save the date!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Make sure you give yourself enough time to dig into all that Joy can do. Don’t just look at it at a glance. I was surprised at all of the applications Joy has. I found all of them very helpful!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

We get so caught up in one day when really, we should be excited that we get to spend every day with the person that puts joy in our day.
