Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
Joel is not a planner. So when he asked me to clear my schedule for a Friday afternoon three weeks in advance, I knew something was up! Joel picked me up from my house that Friday afternoon. Once I got in his car, he had queued up several love songs to play on the way to our destination. Not obvious at all, right? We had planned to have a picnic on top of Mt. Simon in Eau Claire, WI. So as you could imagine, I packed the whole nine yards – a blanket to sit on, wine (always a necessity), cheese, crackers, grapes, and my nerves, of course. Once we got to the peak, I could tell he was nervous as beads of sweat were dripping down his face. In his defense, it was a warm, sunny day. I felt the tension building. He asked me to stand up as he scooted to the opposite side of the blanket. Right as he began to pour his heart out, a couple approached our setup. The blood began to drain from Joel’s face. He encouraged me to sit back down. I did, hiding my laughter. As the couple sat down and became comfortable, I could almost hear Joel’s heart beating. Completely unnaturally, he asked me to climb down a few levels to a flat rock. He finally was able to get down on one knee and pledge his love for me. From there on, we were stuck with each other, without question. And to think we met on a dating app, ha!
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
Venue touring and asking our bridal party to be part of our big day.
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
We prepared with plenty of time to plan and explore all of our options. We honestly haven’t been too stressed about anything. Also, we have an amazing support system behind us, which we are incredibly grateful for!
