Joy Proposal Story: Joel & Elizabeth

by Kelsey Vickers

How did the two of you meet?

Joel and Elizabeth thank their past employer for originally introducing them, though it wasn’t until nine months later they actually met in person. Joel and Elizabeth came face-to-face for the first time at the Calgary Stampede in 2014. Unlike some who meet at the Stampede, they lasted. They are almost shocked that they are here today! They would have never thought that a simple collaboration between offices would lead them down the path of finding a forever friend, a soulmate.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Elizabeth’s family had been going through a tough time with her father being ill for quite awhile. He was discharged and healthy enough to go home after 11 weeks in the hospital. Elizabeth was heading home to Newfoundland to be with her family to welcome her dad home and help with the transition. Unfortunately, due to timing and work commitments, Joel wasn’t able to come with her. Instead, he made her send-off extremely memorable. Joel brought Elizabeth to the airport and walked her to security, she could tell he was stalling but wasn’t sure why. Elizabeth finally said she had to go or else she would miss her flight. She told Joel she would miss him and he responded with, ‘Well, I have something that will make missing me a little more tolerable!’ He got down on one knee and pulled out the most beautiful ring! Joel thought that after what Elizabeth’s family had been through, the engagement would only add to the happiness they were experiencing with her father going home. He was right! Elizabeth’s family was overjoyed. Despite Elizabeth living over 5,700 km away from her parents, they felt they were a part of this very special time in Elizabeth and Joel’s life.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Planning our wedding has been seamless! It’s all come together quickly and effortlessly. This has proven to us that we truly are on the same page, envision our special day the same way and that we really are a great team to move forward into the future together.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We have been really lucky. We haven’t experienced a lot of pressure with planning our wedding. We’ve been working as a team and striking things off our list with ease! It definitely helps that we are both in project management as professionals, so this is a cake walk!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The editing is so straightforward! All of the material that we have had to upload or add to make it our own was so easy to do, and we’re thinking that the app will really help us and our guests as we start to see RSVPs come in!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Don’t think about it too much! Honestly, Joy has figured it out for you and the interface is so user-friendly that even your grandmother will have no problem using it!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Joel and I are so excited for our special day. Our wedding day isn’t so much about the dress or the party, it’s the symbolism of the day, the gateway to the rest of our lives!
