Joy Proposal Story: Julia & Francisco

Joy Proposal Story: Julia & Francisco

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

It was quite an event. Long story short(er): Trigo saw a video of a girl proposing to her boyfriend at a hockey game and got it in his head that I could do the proposing just as well as he could. For about a year, anytime the subject of marriage came up, he would be sure to add in a ‘Just waiting on you to propose!’. The more he brought it up, the more I agreed. Why did I have to wait around for a man to let me know he was ready if I already knew I was? If I was gonna do this, I was gonna make it big.

I tried to create his favorite day. It started with golf, included the Washington Capitals mascot, Slapshot, and led to a recreation of the ‘Happy Gilmore’ Endless Love scene. It was corny and hilarious and perfect. I’ve never seen him so nervous! Instead of using a ring, I proposed with custom collar stays, since he wears them to work every day.

After the main event, we headed home where he was surprised with my family, his family, and a puppy party (thanks to an adoption agency that brought seven furry friends to our house!) We then went to dinner and had a final surprise at a nearby bar where all of our closest friends were waiting. It was the best thing I could have imagined and was so much fun to plan an extravagant act of love.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Honestly, our engagement photo shoot was such a fun time! The photographer was so easy to work with and we were able to just be ourselves, knowing that awesome pictures were being captured. We also followed a close friend’s prized piece of advice: Some pre-shoot beers definitely help to ease the nerves!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I was initially so excited to plan the amazing day that I had been dreaming of forever. As planning went on though, I started to realize that this is not ‘my’ day, it’s ‘our’ day. I knew that initial vision I had before Trigo is not the same as the vision I have after Trigo. It’s important to make sure that you both know what is important and learn to compromise. Without that, it would be a nightmare!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy is easy to use, looks professional, and there are so many ways to customize the content! The help from the Joy team is so timely, it’s easy to tell that they really care about their customers.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

We’re a special case because we’re planning a honeymoon with friends (funnymoon) right after the wedding which is going to require a whole other bit of planning. We love Joy so much and didn’t want our guests to get confused with so much information, so we’ve decided to make two sites for each occasion!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

I always say that I’m going get so overweight and broke because ever since dating Trigo, it feels like I’m on vacation! On vacation, you make excuses for spending money or eating poorly because you want to enjoy every moment you have. Though it’s difficult to stick to budgets and diets, I wouldn’t want it any other way!
