Joy Proposal Story: Julie & Jonathan

by Allie Grampa

Julia and Jon met during the summer of 2012, when they were both working as camp counselors.  They were assigned to the same group and hit it off right from the beginning! Julia made the first move and asked him to dinner (and then asked him out three more times before he caught on that she was interested in him)! They’ve been together ever since.

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

Jon proposed the last weekend of August 2016.  He took me to The Cloister in Sea Island, GA – a world famous 5 star resort that I’ve been dying to visit since moving to Georgia for graduate school.  We picked out my engagement ring together a few months before, so I was definitely suspicious that something was up this weekend!  He proposed Sunday morning by taking me on a private horseback riding tour that went onto the beach. We then got off our horses to “look for shells,” at which point we walked over to the water, and he got down on one knee!  He had hired a photographer to capture the whole thing, and I’m so grateful!  I adore the photos!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

While we still have a lot of planning to do, I think we both love going to catering tastings!  Definitely not a bad part of the planning process!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

While wedding planning is definitely time consuming, it’s also a once in a lifetime experience!  Yes, there are ups and downs, but all of our hard work is going towards a day that will be amazing and that we’ll remember forever, so I guess it’s important to keep that in mind when things get stressful.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy should last forever. What does that mean to you?

To me, it means that even though the wedding is only a few hours long, all the time, energy, and excitement that went into planning the wedding and utilizing Joy should continue throughout a couple’s life together.  While life can be stressful (like wedding planning), it’s important to remember that you and your partner are there for each other and that all your hard work will be rewarded in the end!
