Joy Proposal Story: Kaela & Nathaniel

Joy Proposal Story: Kaela & Nathaniel

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

I proposed to Kaela on her birthday, January 26th. From what I had remembered from previous conversations, Kaela hadn’t had a great birthday since she was about 16 years old. She told me how she didn’t really care for her birthday anymore and how it was just another day to her. So, I decided to change that and turn a day that wasn’t so special to her anymore, back into a special day with an extra special surprise! Both her mom and sister mean a lot to Kaela and I wanted to make sure both of them were there, so I proposed to her where they both live in San Diego. We flew from Sacramento to San Diego the morning of her birthday and I also flew my mom in from Austin, Texas to be there too! Such a special day!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Prayer and we have learned how important it is to communicate about how we are feeling.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

It is so organized! It has been so fun to create our own look to our website and adding our personalities within all the answers to questions. We also love that we get to reflect back on our relationship as we answer questions.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Make sure to ask questions if you don’t understand how to use certain parts of the website! The staff is super quick to answer. Also, makes sure you add your own personalities to the website, it’s been so fun being able to do that!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Regardless of our circumstances, whether good or bad, we get to choose each other every single day for the rest of our lives. If we choose joy in our relationship then we will be able to love when we are unlovable, talk when we’d rather be silent, and fight for one another rather than fight against each other.
