Joy Proposal Story: Kaitlyn & Justin

Joy Proposal Story: Kaitlyn & Justin

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

One of my good friends, Emily (now a bridesmaid), convinced me she needed my moral support” for her to take up photography again. She had recently broken up with her long-term boyfriend. She had gotten into photography while dating him and hadn’t taken photos since they broken up, so it wasn’t that unbelievable. We pulled up to a bridge in Manchester, NH to grab some photos over the water while the sun was setting before we went to trivia. We were tight on time because we needed to make it to trivia (or so I thought), so we drove up closer to the bridge than we should have. Emily had a mini heart-attack when we arrived and realized there was no gate on the fence. I just wanted to get this somewhat pointless endeavor over with, so we jumped the fence.

We were randomly taking photos on the bridge when I noticed Justin walking up on the bridge when I thought, “OMG, I can’t believe you decided to walk Oscar on the same bridge we’re taking photos on!” Then I noticed he was dressed up and asked, “Babe, why are you dressed up?” He replied something about a work meeting, and I didn’t think anything of it. Then I looked down and asked, “Babe, why is Oscar wearing a Bow Tie?” That’s the moment I realized what was happening. Afterward, we headed off to trivia but Justin parked in the total wrong part of town. I was a bit confused, but he said he wanted to tell one of his friends that was at the bar nearby. I was a bit suspicious, but he quickly crushed those doubts by pointing out he’s bad at lying, and I thought he was surprising me not once, but twice… yeah right. Low and behold both of our families and many of our friends were waiting to surprise me and celebrate with us- best surprise ever!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Finalizing decisions. With each decision, another piece of the puzzle is coming together, and I feel like it’s not long until we finish the puzzle!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Take it in small pieces. I’ve been scrapbooking each final decision as I make it. That way I can look over our whole plan in a fun fashion, and it makes me feel more on top of things than I might actually be.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

It’s been very user-friendly and I love how it came out when we were done!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I set up a custom domain that forwards to our webpage, this was super simple and will make communicating the site to guests, much more simple! I went through google domains and it worked like a charm.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Our wedding is a day to celebrate the choice we are making to have joy in our lives every day, for the rest of time.
