Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
A few days before Christmas he told me that because his whole family was going to be in town, his mom wanted family pictures. He asked if I would mind dressing up that morning. Since I absolutely adore his mother, I did not think anything of it! Christmas morning I opened presents with my family, ate and enjoyed a perfect morning, and then my mother reminded me I needed to do my hair, makeup, and to find something pretty to wear. She “encouraged” me to wear a beautiful blue dress and curl my hair (which means she picked out my outfit and did my hair!). When I got to his house, his mom was running late and wanted Austin, myself, and his sister to go ahead to the town square to start pictures. Since she and I are a lot alike, I wasn’t surprised she was running late! We got to the town square that was decorated with poinsettia and Christmas trees. His sister just started snapping a few pictures, or so I thought!

He lead me to the Gazebo in the center. We started singing and dancing to “All I Want for Christmas is You”, very much off key and offbeat. He became very serious and still, pulled me in close, and said, “Remember when you asked me why I love you so much?” Being in the best mood possible, I jokingly stated, “Because I’m amazing…duh!” He threw his head back in laughter and dropped to one knee. He said the most beautiful things to me, that I would like to keep between us, but the best part was that I almost went into shock because I was literally speechless! He sat on one knee for a few moments and then said, “Baby…you have to answer…” I started sobbing and threw myself into his arms! Just when I thought it could not be any more perfect, both of our families came from behind the tree! They were there the whole time and saw everything! His sister caught everything on video as well as hundreds of pictures for us to always remember that day!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
Honestly, my mother is planning our wedding. My job is to show up and get married!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?
I grew up dreaming of the ‘perfect’ wedding day and instead, I later found my soul mate. So many things have gone wrong and will continue to go wrong but at the end of the day, I honestly don’t care because I have him! I don’t need a wedding, I want a marriage. That is what joy is to me.
