Joy Proposal Story: Laura & Mark

Joy Proposal Story: Laura & Mark

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We planned on taking our kids to church and visit his mama’s grave over the weekend. I had been excited to go, and he knew that because I told him I had been wanting to go there and talk to his mama. But, his daughter got sick and we didn’t go. We ended up having a dinner and movie date night planned after the weekend. But first, he said he had another place he wanted to take me. He took me through some back roads- I was half afraid he was going to make me take a walk through the woods in my suede wedge boots! By the time we got closer, I recognized where we were going… to see his mama. We got there and walked over to his mama’s tombstone and talked a little but mostly stood there quietly thinking of her (at least I was, I had no idea what was on his mind!). He sat on a bench nearby with me and he pulled out a word search book. (Side note- his mama and I both like word search puzzles and we had said I should sit there and do one with her sometime.) I started thumbing through the book and came to the page pictured here. He got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” I laughed, and almost cried, and said, “Yeah!” We stayed and talked a while longer, mostly about how all his wonderful ideas came to be. Before we left, I asked for a minute alone with his mama, and I talked to her and told her things that I had been wanting to tell her, even before the proposal but especially after. Things that only she and I heard, but things that her son already knows because I tell him in one way or another, every day. Mostly that I’m so lucky to have fallen so deeply in love with her son, and so thankful for the good man she raised him to be.
