Joy Proposal Story: Lauren & Ryan

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met at work back in 2010, but he was in a relationship and the timing wasn’t right for me either. We got together a few years later when I had just moved back to Maine. The timing was right this time but I was living far from him. I just happened to be working near where he lived, so I gave him a chance and I was smitten.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We were going to his sisters house for Thanksgiving and she was pregnant at the time. She and her husband had planned on doing their gender reveal that day. They told us they would give everyone cupcakes and one of them had either pink or blue icing. When they brought out the cupcakes they had asked me to go first. I took a tiny bite, but everyone was encouraging me to keep stuffing my face?. Once I was halfway through I explained to his family I didn’t have the special one because I did not see any icing, but still they told me to keep going.

You’ll have joy on your wedding day, but what really matters is the journey after. The journey of joy goes on for the rest of your life, not just one day.

At this point I’m thinking I must have the cupcake & everyone, but me knew. I took another bite and said, “oh a ring?” I could only see the silver circle at this point & was very confused for a moment until I saw the bling.. that’s when Ryan got down on one knee & I was floored. I didn’t see it coming even though we had picked rings months prior to that moment. It was memorable, special and the best surprise I could ever ask for. The next set of cupcakes that came out revealed his sister was having a girl.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

The engagement photos. We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed it. Our photographer was amazing! We were so much more relaxed then I thought we would be. We had a lot of fun!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I try to book a lot in one week. We are an hour away from our venue! I attempt to take a week off from traveling, googling, talking to vendors, bridesmaids, etc. I work better under pressure, but it’s been a little crazy. My fiancé and I have a daughter who is now 19 months old and we just moved a few days ago. He has a knee injury and I just recently had a neck injury. He also has to be out of town for work a few weeks before the wedding so my answer is COFFEE, tea & 15 minute work outs!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy has been amazing. Planning a wedding is harder than anyone could imagine, especially in this day and age. I tried a few other sites and found myself instantly stressed out. Joy has been a breeze!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Use everything Joy has to offer because in the end you’ll realize you need it! I’m super busy and the last thing I wanted to mess around with was a wedding website, but then I found Joy and of all things I’ve had to work on for the wedding, this has been one of the easiest! I think this site is amazing!
