Joy Proposal Story: Lillian & Uzoma

by Cali Pitchel

Lillian and Uzoma met through a mutual friend after a church service at Graceville Christian Centre in Abuja, Nigeria.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

The proposal was one of the highlights of our relationship. Uzoma had represented to me that he was against proposal and most importantly giving of ring as he saw rings as symbol of bondage and oppression. I was to travel to the states and I said to myself, How will people know that I am hooked up? But as they say, in marriage, you prepare for the worst. However, little did I know that this dude had plans.

On that very day, I got the surprise of my life. I was invited for a friends birthday party on 17th October at Ivory Place Abuja and was told to come as I would meet a contact that would help me get clientele for my gift consultancy business. I went all made up with a gift for the celebrant in a bid to make an impression. As I stepped in, the celebrant met up with me, got a seat for me and left. After few minutes this Violinist came playing our song, “To Love You More,” by Celine Dion.

Uzoma walked in proposed and that was it. The ambience was amazing, and the event incredible, I have never been taken by surprise like that before and from that day, I began to respect Uzoma as a man of style.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

The budget of the wedding has been our favourite part because this was the part that we thought would be the hardest—but surprisingly we were able to reach a consensus without much hassle.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We started early and stuck to our budget.

How did you hear about Joy?

From our wonderful friend Nnenna, who is also the web manager for our wedding. We wanted it to be digital and social media heavy which is not common in Nigeria.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The ease of the tools. Joy is very straight forward, but still made us feel tech-savvy.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

This is very important and something every couple should consider. Couples should know that while wedding is for a day, marriage lasts forever, so they should make sure they have joy forever.
