Joy Proposal Story: Liz & Carlos

by Kelsey Vickers

How did the two of you meet?

Seventeen years ago we were in a figure drawing course together at the local community college. It took us until February of 2016 to realize that we belonged together!

Who proposed?

Liz proposed!

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Liz decided she wanted to pop the question. We collect pressed pennies from places we visit, so Liz had a pressed penny made that read ‘Carlos, Marry Me’ and hid it in a fixture in the bathroom. She told Carlos something was wrong with the shower and he needed to fix it. As he jiggled the fixture, the penny fell out. He laughed, picked it up, turned it over and his face changed. He began to nod, and Liz stood there attempting to get words out. Eventually, the question was asked and he said “yes!”

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We’ve loved imagining how much fun it’s going to be. We’re looking forward to a dance party with soul and funk music, a lot of good food, and amazing people surrounding us.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We have been so excited, it hasn’t felt stressful yet. We also have a lot of great organizational tools that help us.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

It’s easy to use and personal.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Take a look at every feature. There’s a lot that will help with the process if you know that it’s there.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

We feel joy every moment we’re together, and we feel joyful thinking of the years we will spend as a married couple. The wedding day will be a celebration, but the party will go on forever!
