Joy Proposal Story: Liz & Jason

Joy Proposal Story: Liz & Jason

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We took a vacation to Ireland, which we have both been obsessing about for years. We had a medieval adventure to castles and cathedrals, I also have a slight obsession with all things haunted. When I found out that we could tour the most haunted house in Ireland, Jason started emailing the company right away. The Loftus Hall was the name of the haunted attraction that was actually a beautiful Victorian style manor with a rich and dark history. The company accommodated the whole thing. I was placed in the leading role for their role-playing portion of the tour and they caught our entire proposal on Facebook Live. Jason actually stole my phone earlier in the day and announced to all my friends and family back home to tune in for it and then deactivated my FB account so I couldn’t get notifications. In the center of the mansion was the staircase that I was proposed on. Only three original staircases by that particular builder exist. One is in the Vatican, the other is in the bottom of the Atlantic on the Titanic, and the last is the one I was proposed to on. Minus the disheveled background of a haunted house, it is the exact replica of the Grand Staircase featured in the movie Titanic!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

I love planning parties! So, I’ve been enjoying the whole process. I’d have to say writing our own ceremony and our own vows is definitely a favorite. Also, we decided to do a lot of things differently than most weddings. We are hosting a Murder Mystery dinner party in Masquerade Ball theme for our rehearsal dinner, which we are all excited about. Our wedding reception is going to be very casual at a campground, full of yard game tournaments, kids Olympics, swimming, and boating. It’s been a real joy planning it all and orchestrating all the oddities involved.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I like to think of it as planning a fun party. This takes the pressure off of throwing the “most perfect” wedding. What exactly does that mean anyway? I’m having fun with it and taking my time, so it doesn’t feel like a chore. I keep telling Jason that the only people at our wedding that matter are the two of us. If no one else shows up, or if no one else enjoys themselves, it won’t matter as long as it’s memorable to us. In the end, we have a loving and lasting marriage!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I love how easy it is to personalize and add all the necessary information. We’re having a more unique wedding so it’s important for us to share the necessary information with our guests. Joy has made that process easy with the organization for our guests to find all the details they will need!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Explore the website and play around with it until you find what works. Most things are customizable to your preference with a little creativity. Have fun with it!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Marriage is the real joy that comes from a wedding. While fun and exciting, the day is over within hours. A wedding is an opportunity to celebrate a relationship that has been growing and evolving into something amazing. That’s the joy that lasts a lifetime!
