Maggie and Phill met during a night out in graduate school, where they both discovered a love of electronic music and spent the early morning hours dancing to a local DJ (a DJ they would end up seeing many more times throughout their relationship). When Maggie was looking for someone to travel with during winter break in 2011, Phill agreed to join her. They decided to meet up in Colombia, where they spent a week trekking along the northern coast, sleeping on beaches and braving crazy drivers. They’ve been together ever since!
Give us the details! Where? When? How?
We had a tradition of going to a local theater festival every summer. One of our favorite production companies always put on a must-see show. When the festival rolled into town in July 2015, it was no surprise that we immediately booked tickets to go see their latest production with some good friends. During the initial opening of the performance, they had an audience participation segment where people got onstage to answer questions for prizes.

As the play neared its end, the audience participation segment started again, instead this time they called out ticket numbers to get people onstage. My number was the first called, but I hesitated to go up and instead tried to get Phill to go in my place. Finally after some prodding from the actors, I got onstage and answered a number of questions to take the lead in the hunt for a free bottle of champagne. Finally, the actors decided to take one last question from the audience and sure enough, Phill came down to propose on stage! Turns out that he had been rehearsing with the cast for this moment for weeks before the show. The rest of the night was spent celebrating with the cast and other festival goers at a nearby bar. It was truly a memorable night!

Tasting the wines for our big day.
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
That’s probably a better question for Phil, since I don’t think I can fairly say that I’ve been “sane” over the last few months. Phill?
