Joy Proposal Story: Meghana & Shan

by Cali Pitchel

Meghana and Shan met online! Shan asked Meghana about the horse in her profile picture, and the conversation progressed to their common love of the outdoors and medicine (humans for him, animals for her). Meghana had to leave to study for an exam, but not long after, she was sitting at Village Whiskey sipping on an Old Fashioned and talking to this amazing guy. They talked for over three hours, and you could say they’ve been pretty hooked ever since!

Who proposed? Give us the details! When? Where? How?

Shan and I love to travel, and we had wanted to explore the Pacific Northwest for sometime. Last August, we finally packed our bags and headed to Seattle to start our part camping, part road-tripping, part wine-tasting adventure. After a beautiful day in the city, we made our way to Mt. Rainier National Park to set up a campsite for the night. We had just finished dinner when we started reminiscing over our earlier adventures.

We will always remember our wedding as a heartfelt celebration in the presence of family and friends, but we find the most Joy in knowing that we are better having found our love for one another.

We recalled our first camping trip together, and how it could have been terrible (I had never really been camping before!), but we had a fantastic time, and it is easily one of my favorite memories of our time together. At this point Shan told me that we could choose to “adventure together forever,” pulled out a ring, and asked me to marry him! Of course I said yes, and we are thoroughly enjoying this next step in our relationship.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Getting to spend time with friends and family. Shan and I are so fortunate to have a wonderful network of people in our lives, and they have gone above and beyond to support our relationship, help us plan our wedding, and make us feel incredibly loved.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Remembering what the wedding is ultimately about – us. Shan and I have lived in separate cities for the past 3 years, and that will finally end this summer when I finish school and join him in Nashville. So, really our wedding marks the beginning of the rest of our lives together, in more ways than one. Whenever the stress of wedding planning gets the best of me, I like to read old cards, listen to a song we love, or look at our wedding website (really!) to remind me that at the end of the day I get to marry my best friend and start the beginning of a long-awaited beautiful adventure together.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Can I say everything? I like the clean, modern look to the website and the easy navigation. It was also really important to us to have a website that could collect RSVPs for multiple events and that had an app.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Take advantage of all the options Joy offers to customize the website to fit you and your needs. It may take some time playing around with it, but that’s okay! Joy also has great staff available via online chat to help with any questions you have along the way.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

We will always remember our wedding as a heartfelt celebration in the presence of family and friends, but we find the most Joy in knowing that we are better having found our love for one another.
