Joy Proposal Story: Melody & Matthew

by Cali Pitchel

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Matt proposed about 7 months into our relationship on March 18th, 2016. I usually work Monday-Saturday so he planned on doing it on a Sunday. But I unexpectedly got a Friday off that week and so told Matt to take that day off so we could spend it together. Little did I know, he had planned to propose that weekend on Sunday, but immediately changed his plans to the Friday since the weather was going to be much nicer.

Matt made me breakfast that morning and kept the rest of the date a mystery since I loved surprises. I had no idea where or what we were doing but was only told to dress warm. I had major food coma after the breakfast so passed out on the car ride there. When I woke up, we ended up at an airfield. He told me we were going on a helicopter tour! Before I could think of what he was up to, he told me his friend was joining us since the helicopter fit three people. I was like, oh, nothing romantic is going to happen for sure. To be honest, I was just worried I’d throw up during the ride since I get very motion sick.

I see the wedding day as the beginning of a journey together full of joy.

So we headed towards the mountains and suddenly we were in a winter wonderland since they just had a huge dumping of snow! I thought we were just going to circle around to look at the scenery, but then I noticed the pilot slowly descending on a mountain peak. He told us we could get off and take some pictures if we wanted. No one had landed on that mountain after the snowfall so there was about a good 2-3 feet of snow. I was definitely not dressed for this and was very worried my jeans and feet were going to get all wet. At this time, Matt was acting very weird and was frantically dragging me along with him to take pictures and get a good background. Little did I know he was stressing out about where he would pop the question since we only got about 30 minutes on the peak.

He started to make a clearing with his feet and I still had no clue what he was doing. It wasn’t until he grabbed both my hands and started talking did it finally hit me. He was proposing! We had some pretty nice photos too since his friend that came along was actually there to be the photographer. Lol!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

My favourite experience planning the wedding so far has been wedding dress shopping! Although it got a little frustrating by the end since I had tried on over 30 dresses….

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Matt has kept me pretty sane…I’ve been stressing quite a bit with the planning but he’s kept me calm and always tries to make me feel better.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The fact that you can customize everything!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I found Joy a bit later into my wedding planning so didn’t use the Save the Date or guest list linking features. That would’ve been helpful earlier on.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

I see the wedding day as the beginning of a journey together full of joy. And just like the wedding vows, till death do us part, joy will be an integral part of our marriage.
