Joy Proposal Story: Monique & Zack

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met in a salsa class!

Even though a wedding day will come and go, the happiness and joy from it will carry on in your lifetime forever.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Zack proposed on December 28, 2015 at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley, CA. This was also the location of our first date! He threw me off since it was right after Christmas and we were planning to go to dinner using a Visa gift card we received. I thought to myself  “he is definitely not popping the question if we’re using gift cards for dinner!”. We arrived at the Claremont and on our way to dinner he wanted to stop and look at the sun setting, this hotel is known for the beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay Area. We looked at the amazing view out the windows in the bar area and then continued to walk further down the hall towards the restaurant.
I told him it was so beautiful when he turned to me and said, “wouldn’t this be the perfect place to purpose?”
Zack walked into an empty room with a large window view of the sunset and we both admired the sun going down since it had such a spectacular view.  I told him it was so beautiful when he turned to me and said, “wouldn’t this be the perfect place to purpose?”. Then, he immediately got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said, “Of course! Thank you, thank you!” I was in total shock and felt like it was such a surreal, yet special moment for both of us. Zack also planned for the concierge working there to be record it on her phone for us, in secret. We did not eat dinner there after all since everyone was waiting for us to celebrate with them! So, we headed to Walnut Creek, CA where Zack had arranged for all of our closest family and friends to be. The best feeling ever thus far, such an amazing day!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We are big foodies, so we have enjoyed all of the food tastings and are looking forward for more to come!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We have had a long engagement, so it has given us the time to save and prepare which has been really helpful! Also, being mindful of the fact that once it is all said and done, we will be married!  It’s such an exciting time and we’re having fun in the process of planning.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

We love that it is really personal and that it gives our guests a platform to share photos on our wedding day. The app is REALLY neat.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Make sure to encourage your guests to download the app! Also, allow each of you to take part in adding tidbits of information. It’s fun to get both perspectives on there!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

It means that even though a wedding day will come and go, the happiness and joy from it will carry on in your lifetime forever.
