Joy Proposal Story: Nicole & Sterling

by Cali Pitchel

Nicole and Sterling met at the gym. Sterling is a personal trainer, and Nicole took his classes for about two years before he asked her out. (And the first time he did, she said no!) They eventually became closer and closer and started talking every single day. Then one day Nicole just knew that they had to be together. Luckily, he felt the same way. The rest is history!

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

Sterling actually proposed to me in our kitchen. It was on December 30th, a Friday night. I work at a University here in Wichita so I get time off at Christmas. It was at the end our holiday break, and we wanted to do something fun with my daughter. We took her to lunch and then to an arcade and played games. After that we took her to my parents for a sleepover, so it was just going to be the two of us at home that night. He had a session that evening until 6:30, so I made us homemade pizzas for dinner. After we ate dinner, I was in the kitchen cleaning up and he came in acting so weird—hugging on me and telling me how much I meant to him. Then when I turned around to find out what his deal was, he was on one knee!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

I think my favorite part is how hands on Sterling has been. He wants to be involved in everything! So it’s nice having his input.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I cry a lot. Haha! No, I’m kidding. Sort of… But I really do cry sometimes. Sterling is great when I have my wedding freak-outs so he keeps me pretty sane.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I love how customizable everything is!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

To really play with the website a lot. I was completely confused at first, but after trial and error, I eventually figured it out. And look at the sample site! They have tons of ideas!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

The whole wedding process has been so exciting to me and it’s even more exciting to get to do this with my absolute best friend. And I know I’ll remember all of these moments that we’re sharing for the rest of my life!
