Joy Proposal Story: Niky & Michael

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We bought a ring together on a random Saturday afternoon in the fall, following a summer of recovering. Niky was recovering from having a brain tumor removed and Mike was there every step of the way helping. We bought the ring together but Niky was not sure when he would ask the big question! In December, we visited the Portland International Speedway Festival of lights in a snowstorm, it was completely empty and we had the place to ourselves! We got out of the car to take pictures in the snow and as the winter wonderland lights twinkled, Mike got down on one knee. He said he had waited long enough, he wanted me to be his wife, asking, “Will you marry me?” I was saying, “Yes!” before the words even got all the way out of his mouth!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

My favorite part of the wedding planning experience has been the constant reminder that I get to marry this amazing guy! All of my ‘someday’ hopes and thoughts about what my wedding will look like as I daydreamed with friends are coming true!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We remind ourselves that the only things we really have to do are get dressed up, show up, and say “I Do!”. The rest is all optional!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I really liked creating the website and how the photos flow as you scroll down. It’s classy!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I’m not actually sure I’m using it to my full potential, yet! It has a lot to offer and I’m hoping to have it assist me in keeping track of everything I need.
