Joy Proposal Story: Ricardo & Melissa

Joy Proposal Story: Ricardo & Melissa

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

On Melissa’s 48th birthday, Ricardo took Melissa out to eat at the Fish House. The couple had been dating for two and a half years at this point and had often spoken of marriage. Melissa felt this may be the night, so she was excited when they got to dinner! The restaurant was perfect. The lighting was dim, candlelit, and romantic. They ordered wine and appetizers as she waited for a sign, yet nothing. During dinner, she knew that this would be his opportunity, yet nothing. They ordered Melissa’s favorite dessert, Key Lime Pie, and she waited anxiously. Still… nothing! Ricardo paid the bill then left and went to his place. Melissa was in shock that he never popped the question. At his place, they winded down and Melissa went to use the restroom. A few minutes later, Ricardo pushed open the bathroom door, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him with the ring in hand. Melissa said, “Can I wipe first?” He said, “No, I want you to always remember this moment.” And that I will!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

It may seem funny, but, I went to three bridal shows and had a ball at each! They opened up my eyes to so many possible things to do, costs of things and ideas to create my perfect day. Which, by the way, is a destination wedding where I paid for a package but when we return, we are having a New Year’s Eve reception!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Often I just have to walk away, take a break, and then work again.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Our wonderful website and being able to personalize everything.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

It takes time and effort but just work on it! It is so 20th century, no paper invitations! So far it’s been an amazing experience. I find myself so excited to add email addresses to my guest list so that they can see our site.
