Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
Sicily works for the Atlanta Ballet. Every winter they have a Nutcracker performance at The Fox Theatre. Derrick was in cahoots with Sicily’s boss to have a special proposal on Christmas Eve, after the show, with their families in attendance. Once the show ended Sicily’s boss helped Derrick get both families on a backstage “tour” led by Sicily. On the tour, Derrick wanted to take a picture of the center of the stage. That is when the magical moment happened, with the beautiful Fox Theatre in the background. Sicily was so surprised she could not contain her happy dance. The Fox will forever hold a special place in our heart!
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
Reminiscing on getting to this point by telling funny high school memories, looking at baby pictures, and hearing our parents’ stories. It’s great to just feel thankful we have each other and enjoy this time together. It’s not often you get to plan a huge party for yourself!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
It’s all about perspective. Everyone has their own personal tastes and traditions, but remember this day is for you two. If you don’t want to do the “norm”, don’t! Do what makes you and your significant other happy and everything else will fall into place. It’s the happiest time of your life, try not to let it be stressful. It takes a lot of effort to maintain that state of mind!
What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?
I love the creative freedom in such an easy-to-use format. It lets everyone show their personality without having to stress over difficult technical features!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?
Start Early! Make sure to read everything you are able to do with Joy. If you don’t explore the site you will never know all of the features you are missing out on.
At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?
Our wedding is the celebration and start of our new life together, a life filled with Joy. Joy is deeper than happiness. We are now with the person we are meant to be with. It is not always going to be sunshine and rainbows in life. Things will be tough and there will always be rough patches, but the joy will always be there. Joy is what feeds the heart and keeps you going.
