Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
While traveling in Portugal, Joe arranged a surprise for my birthday. We traveled to Obidos, a castle town, where Joe had reserved a room in the castle’s tower because it’s “for a queen.” We spent the day exploring the town and had dinner that evening at a lovely restaurant where we watched the sunset over the rolling hills. Then, he took me out on the ramparts for a glass of Ginja, a local sweet cherry liqueur, and proposed. He said he chose the place because he always wanted me to feel as safe and protected as I did inside those castle walls.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
Other than the initial difficulty of finding a venue and having to compromise on the date, it hasn’t been stressful. I know the real chaos will hit in the last month or two when all the small details need to come together.

While I’m excited that we’re about to throw a big party for our family and friends, I never lose sight of the bigger picture. I know sustaining a relationship is hard work, and it isn’t always joyful, but I do believe we can choose to find joy in every day.
