Joy Proposal Story: Vincent & Nichole

by Cali Pitchel

Nichole met Vincent while visiting a girlfriend in Texas. Vincent was a childhood friend of hers, so they met the very first night when they all went out to dinner. Vincent likes to say that he strategically picked the seat across the table from Nichole. There was definitely chemistry right away—and that first meeting evolved into a solid friendship. Six years later, they are planning their wedding!

Who proposed? Give us the details!

Vincent did. This is my favorite story to tell. We were expecting our daughter in July 2016, so in May we decided to go on a “babymoon”/5-year anniversary trip. We had so many activities and outings planned – one of them was a picnic on top of Mt. Bonnell in Austin, TX. We planned on grabbing some food, hiking to the top and eating while watching the sunset. How romantic right?

Well … when you’re seven months pregnant things don’t always go the way you plan.

We stopped and got our food for the picnic, and then went back to the hotel to relax until dinner time. I got hungry about an hour before we planned on heading out, so I broke into my food early. It was gross—not what I wanted at all. So of course Vince starts packing up and says we can leave a little early and grab something for me to eat on the way. Long story short – the food I ordered took forever to make, his timeline got all off track, by the time we finally got to our secluded viewing spot it was sunset.

He set up the GoPro to take a few pictures of us with the beautiful background. While posing for a picture, he got on one knee and proposed. It was unforgettable. In that moment, there was nobody else in the world except for the two of us.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

I have loved planning the tiny details: creating the favors, going over specific poses that I want captured with my photographer, and soaking in every minute of the planning process.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I haven’t been stressed at all. I budgeted a wedding decorator and coordinator so they are handling all of my stress.

How do you and Vince make time for each other, especially while you’re planning the wedding?

We have perfected the art of in home date nights. When we are home together in the evenings, we are very aware and present in that moment. We watch movies, binge watch TV shows, whatever we are doing it is time well spent together.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy is perfect. I am from Massachusetts, and we are expecting a lot of out of town guests. I love that Joy has the option to include all traveling and lodging information in one place. It is so tricky to narrow the details down to fit on an invitation card – so I am so thankful I found Joy.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I would say to use all of the pages available. Guests like having as much information as possible, and the more details (no matter how trivial they seem) you can provide – the easier it will make it on everyone.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Having a Joy website is so exciting for me. It is like having a virtual scrapbook of the entire wedding process. I try to upload photos of fun planning events like the catering tasting and sending out save the dates, so I can look back and remember all the little things that brought us to the wedding.
