Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
Last Christmas, we spent the holidays with my fiancé‘s family in Chicago. Matt’s parents gave us an early Christmas present to go see the show, Hamilton. I was floored with excitement! Little did I know, this was step one of the surprise engagement plans that Matt had up his sleeve. The very next day we made our way into the city and grabbed lunch with friends at Federales Tacos & Tequila before the show. Then, skipping the details of the show, (no spoilers here) we made our way through the festive streets of Chicago on a Hamilton high. Matt informed me that we were meeting his family for dinner at NoMi Kitchen, which looks over the Chicago Water Tower. It was when we arrived at the water tower, next to the big Christmas tree, he took me by surprise and got on one knee. As soon as I realized what was happening, I burst into tears of happiness! Which also made him do the same, and unable to get a word out at first. He told me something along the lines of, “You’re the love of my life Virginia and I love yo, baby. I can’t imagine life without you. Will you spend forever with me?” Of course, I said, “Yes!” We hugged, cried, and luckily this beautiful moment was all captured by his friend Luke. Last but not least, dinner was not happening at NoMi but instead, there was a beautiful surprise engagement party waiting for us at Siena Tavern with all of our family and friends! Nothing can top the happiness and joy that filled my heart that day! Needless to say, Matt did very good!
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
Other than cake and food tasting, our favorite part of wedding planning has been seeing everything come together! It’s almost been a year, and with the help of Joy (and our fabulous wedding planner!) the planning experience has been fun without turning into a chore.
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
Honestly, we haven’t really felt the pressure yet! We just sent out our save-the-dates with our Joy website printed on them and we’ve already had guests sign on, interact with the site, RSVP, and even make travel arrangements! It’s fun to see the list grow even before the new year has arrived. It really makes us feel like we’re on top of the planning process!
What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?
The social aspect of bringing everyone together through our website, before the actual wedding day.
What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?
Set aside time to work on the website together and give yourself plenty of time to work on it! Make it fun and have family help you. Both of our moms have the sign on password to help us edit and fill in information!
At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?
I love how all of our planning comes down to what is the kick-off celebration of our new life together as husband and wife. The memories will last forever!
