Joy Proposal Story: Abbey & Travis

Joy Proposal Story: Abbey & Travis

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Abbey prepared to follow Travis on another one of his crazy missions to ski something fun. They left the house at 4am (unfortunately, Merle had to stay home for this one) and headed to their favorite mountain range, the Uinta Mountains. When the road turned to snow they parked Travis’ truck, strapped their skis and boots to their backpacks, and hopped on fat bikes to reach the trailhead. Once at Trial Lake, they stashed the bikes in the woods, put on ski boots, and started a long and steep skin up Mount Watson. After climbing and skinning up a challenging vertical of about 3,000 feet, they searched for a safe area to transition and prepare for the descent on skis.

They found a flat(ish) rock and Travis allowed Abbey to sit down while he offered to transition their gear. As he pulled off her new skins (which Travis had recently designed and manufactured that Abbey used to ascend the mountain) she was shocked to see that he had written a hidden message. The underside of the skins read, “Will You Marry Me?” As Abbey processed what was happening, Travis pulled a sparkling ring from his backpack, got down on one knee, and asked Abbey to be his wife! The ski out, with this added adrenaline and excitement to spend the rest of their lives together, was the most fun either of them has ever had!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Everything! But I am most excited about our band, a nine-piece band called Changing Lanes. We have spent the summer going to see them perform at different parties and events and can’t wait to dance the night away with them!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Wine! Also, having a very supportive fiance who has mastered the phrase, “Yes dear, sounds great” and lets me do my thing.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I love the website templates that highlight us as a couple. It focuses on photos and provides a user-friendly, engaging template so our friends and family want to read the details.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Honestly, I’m still learning. I would say to make sure to download the mobile app and view the website on a desktop as well as on a phone. My brother commented that the Joy website is the most mobile-friendly format he has seen.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

I couldn’t agree more! The wedding is about so much more than August 31, 2019, for us. We have had a longer engagement and are enjoying every moment of planning. Recognizing that if we take things a little at a time, we will (hopefully) avoid some of the wedding planning stress. The wedding day is about all of the people who will be joining us! What an incredible experience it will be to have all of the people that we love in one place. I can’t think of another time that this will happen! All of those people who will make an effort to be with us on our day are supporting our union and lives together. We cannot wait to be husband and wife and to spend the rest of our lives together!!
