Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
I struggled with this for about a year, I wanted to do a big hike and then pop the question! In the end, I went with a private proposal in a special place to us both. We had just moved into our new house, it was Alice’s birthday and I had her occupied setting up her present (a Fitbit). We have an office at the top of the garden with beautiful ocean views, I set up the room with fairy lights, candles spelling ‘Marry Me’, Moët and I had Ben Howard playing. I rang her to ask her to come up to the office (scared that the tea lights would either burn out or burn up the place!) She was reluctant, but thinking I had been secretly stashing a kayak up there, she came around to the idea. There was no need for me to say much, Alice had floods of happy tears!
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
It’s been a little tricky, we’re living in New Zealand but getting married in the UK, so there is a lot of stress. My favorite was getting the dress, we had two weeks in the UK to sort some legal bits out, and we both had a day out with our girls and mum in our respective home towns. We both picked out a wedding dress.
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
Alice has been amazing, she gets stuff done. I just internally stress about it. Staying sane is due to her, and wine!
What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?
Seeing people RSVP.
What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?
Ensure people can actually read the code so they can access the website. That was our biggest downfall (I’ll blame Alice’s Doctor handwriting!)
