Joy Proposal Story: Alisa & Keith

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

On November 6th we decided to take a trip up to Friday Harbor to have some “us time” before the hectic holidays. Little did I know, Keith had been planning a proposal for weeks, he even built a spreadsheet to be fully prepared. Romantic, right? After a night of random trivia in a dive bar, we spent our Saturday exploring the island. We visited an old mausoleum and were prepared to go on a hike, but the rain had come and we may have had a drink too many the night before. (Not the best day for a northwest hike!) We found ourselves in the car driving around the island searching for the next stop. Keith kept asking where we should go. “Roche Harbor? What about this cool pier? Should we walk out there? What about that neat looking cliff?”I didn’t think his millions of ideas were that strange, Keith is spontaneous from time to time. I didn’t realize that the hike we had planned is where he was going to propose. His spreadsheet plan was ruined and the back-up plan he had, was closed.

While we were driving I pointed to a little chapel on the countryside and said, “Cute! Let’s stop and take a picture.” I love little barns and churches in the country. The quaint church sat atop a small hill on the property of a winery surrounded by barns and acres of farmland. We walked around the grounds taking pictures, enjoying the view of the land and wine grapes that grew on the property. Keith began to tell me how much he loved me, how he’d known ever since the early days that we’d be together forever. We walked to the church porch and he dropped to one knee. Keith told me that he wanted to spend his life with me. He pulled out the ring he had kept hidden in his coat pocket all day. “Will you marry me?” I was in such shock that all I could do was give him my hand. I was shaking with excitement and I couldn’t speak. He slipped the ring on and we kissed. Keith was still on one knee when he said, “So… yes?” and I yelled, “Yes!” We spent the next hour sipping on wine, taking too many pictures of the ring, and calling our friends. Keith had the rest of the night planned out: a special dinner where they were waiting for us with champagne; a hotel room filled with flowers, strawberries, and chocolates. It was the perfect day for us both.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Finding our venue! It’s the most beautiful, old farm with a view of sprawling land and Puget Sound.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We are pretty chill. Stress doesn’t really happen much for us. When it does, wine helps. So does our little companion, Luna.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy is such a cool app. It’s easy to use, clean, modern, and the prompts it gave us are so fun! We loved writing our story and writing about our wedding party.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Use Joy! Of all the other sites we explored, no other sites compared. It is simply the best.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

A few years ago, we took my little niece to the aquarium. I watched her run to the glass separating her and the colorful fish. “Look, that’s Nemo, and that’s his dad!” She exclaimed. “What’s that one doing?” “WOAH!” She was filled with curiosity, wonder, and even got a little scared of the scuba diver cleaning the tank. That’s what true joy is. True joy is immersing yourself in the beautiful colors of life with curiosity and wonder. It’s facing the scariest moments with the people you love the most.
