Allyson and James met in 2015—Andrew was working in the local ice rink and she was a figure skater. Andrew moved away in 2011, but moved back to town in 2014. They were both headed back to work one day and ended up next to each other at a stop light. Allyson messaged him on Facebook later that day, and they had lunch the next week. The rest, as they say, is history.
Give us the details! When? Where? How?
It was Christmas Eve of 2016, and we had just opened presents with my parents and little brother at my house. They all told me that Andrew and I had one more gift to open from my aunt. I was standing by the Christmas tree, and I started taking the tissue paper from the bag that Andrew was holding and throwing it around—just totally being silly until I pulled the box out of the bag. Andrew took the box and got down on knee, and asked me to spend forever with him in front of the people that matter most to me. It was perfect.
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
So far, I’d have to say finding my dress. My mom, Aunt Nonna, and little brother, Peyton, went with me to look. I wasn’t even planning on getting a dress that day, but totally fell in love with a ivory A-line ball gown. Getting my dream dress totally made things feel real!
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
Take a deep breath, drink a pot of coffee, and remind my self that after all the wedding stress is gone, I get to spend forever with my best friend!
What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?
How user friendly it is! I’m not the most internet savvy person and its really easy for me to navigate Joy.
What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?
Download the app! Love it.
At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?
To me it means its going to be such a special that that I’m going to remember forever with the help of Joy, and that the real joy is getting to be Andrew’s wife! I can’t wait!
