Joy Proposal Story: Amanda & Britton

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met at Texas A&M University. Mutual friends set us up with dates to the same formal but with different people! We maintained a friendship throughout college and post grad, then we started dating after years of friendship!

How long have you been together?

We’ve been friends for 7 years and have dated for a year and half!

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We had plans to go to England to visit Britton’s best friends and go to Wimbledon. Britton grew up playing tennis competitively and it has been a dream of his to go to Wimbledon for most of his life! It was the perfect alibi to get us to hop across the pond for a fun week in England! I had no idea that he had been planning for months to propose. I even told a coworker that I was 99% sure that we would not get engaged on the trip! The last day of our vacation we travelled to Blenheim Palace outside of Oxford. Blenheim Palace is the former home of Winston Churchill and has a museum in the Palace along with acres of beautiful, well kept land.
A quote we saw on the grounds of the museum read “The gardens are where wonderful things happen.”
All week Britton had been talking about how gorgeous Blenheim was and how excited he was to take me there. Once we got to the palace we went for a walk through the gardens on the property. We walked through the grounds and Britton led me to a beautiful rose garden. He dropped the backpack he had been carrying and took out a note that he had written. It was so sweet and thoughtful! I finished reading the note and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! A quote we saw on the grounds of the museum read “The gardens are where wonderful things happen.” I couldn’t agree more!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Getting to make decisions with my fiancé! My mom passed away a year and half ago and I was worried about planning a wedding on my own. My wedding day was something my mom and I imagined from the time I was a child and I had been so excited all my life to plan with her. Britton has been the best partner through this process thus far and has been so helpful with everything! He cares about the details and at the same time is very grounded. I’m excited I get to do this with him!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I haven’t had too many pressures yet! We got engaged on July 7th so I’m just getting into it!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I LOVE the layout. It’s so unique and beautifully done!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I’m still learning! It would seem that the more your guests know about the site, the more useful it will be. Not only do they get to know the couple better, but there’s so much opportunity to help your guests be informed through the suggested tabs (Travel & Lodging, RSVP Questions, Schedule, etc)

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Faith is very important to both me and my fiancé. Joy is the security in knowing that you have a firm foundation, that the world can be a mess around you but the stability of Christ can weather all. I’m so thankful that my fiancé holds fast to this, too. We are so excited for a life together, it goes way beyond the wedding day and is a love to last a lifetime.
