Joy Proposal Story: Brittany & Russell

by Cali Pitchel

Brittany and Russell met during Christmas break in 2010 through a mutual friend—six years later they’re still together. Not only that, they are planning a wedding. They share their proposal story, how they stay sane during wedding planning, and what joy looks like for a lifetime.

Who proposed? Give us the details! When? Where? How?

The proposal took place at Sapphire Beach on the East end of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. Russell planned the proposal with a friend of ours who is currently a graphic design and photography student at Liberty University in Virginia. In the past, Dale has used us as models for his photography projects.

We know that our love for one another will continue to bring us joy that will last a lifetime.

This time around, I was tricked into thinking that we were being used as models for his portfolio. While my back was facing Russell, he tapped me on the shoulder and when I turned around he was on one knee. To my surprise, the entire shoot was staged to capture the proposal.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Our favorite experience during the wedding planning has been planning our Honeymoon. Aside from various island countries, we have never visited a country outside of the US. We have always dreamed of vacationing in Europe.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We’ve managed to keep our cool by planning early. From the moment he proposed in January of 2016, I began planning for the wedding. The earlier you start, the less stressful it will be.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

My favorite part of using Joy for the wedding is designing our website. Joy provides a more modern template, unlike the cheesy, boring templates, others sites provide.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

One piece of advice I would give to couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential is to utilize the instant messaging feature. The Joy Staff is readily available to answer any questions you may have.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Wedding days are so special and will be remembered for the rest of our lives. But after the wedding day is over, we know that our love for one another will continue to bring us joy that will last a lifetime.
