Joy Proposal Story: Caitlin & Adam

by Kelsey Vickers

How did the two of you meet?

Before the first date, kiss, or ‘I love you’ was shared, there was a friendship. We met and spoke very briefly at the orientation for our master’s program. After some innocent flirting, we eventually became study buddies. Although if you ask Adam, he will tell you he spent most of that time teaching Caitlin rather than studying! Our program was very intense and we spent almost every day together, either in class or at each other’s apartments studying. Although we were just friends to start and weren’t looking for anything more than that, there was always a spark and instant chemistry we like to say we tried to deny. A short two months after meeting that spark caught fire and the rest is history!

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

It started out like any other Saturday for Adam and Caitlin. Adam made breakfast while Caitlin got ready for work. Saturdays have been deemed “date days” for the couple to allow them to ensure they get quality time together with their hectic schedules. Once Caitlin finished at work the couple decided to go downtown to a local paint-your-own pottery shop. Unknown to Caitlin, the original plan for the day involved painting “Will you Marry Me?” on a piece of pottery. The shop was very crowded and Adam did not feel this was the way he wanted to propose.

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” – Dale Carnegie

The two finished painting their items and headed off to MJ’s Seafood and Raw Bar (the bride’s new favorite place!). Following dinner, on their way home the couple stopped by the waterfront. Adam guided Caitlin over to her favorite spot by the water. As they approached the water, Adam started to get down on one knee, Caitlin immediately thought he was playing a trick on her to tie his shoe and make it look like he was going to propose. Before she could tell him that it wasn’t funny, Adam pulled out a ring from his jacket pocket and asked Caitlin to be his best friend for the rest of their lives. Caitlin was completely shocked and once she realized it wasn’t a trick she shouted: “Yes of course!”. It was the most memorable date day we’ve had and we can’t wait to celebrate the one date day that will top them all on Saturday, May 12, 2018!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Finding my dress has been the best part so far (with plenty of time left for more things). The way I found it, it was undeniable that it was meant to be my dress!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I go on a run every day and have my prayer time with the Lord. It always centers me so that I remember what this day is truly about, marrying my best friend.
