Joy Proposal Story: Carla & Robert

by Caroline Eggers

Carla and Robert were introduced to each other by a mutual acquaintance at a house party in May of 2015. After one special night involving a little rain, John Legend, and an unexpected family gathering, the two made it official!

Joy is a state of peace and a calm mind—it is positive and progressive energy that creates a strong spirit, mind and body.

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

It had been raining off and on all day on my birthday. Rob picked me up and told me we were going to his house for a small dinner party with our families to celebrate. Instead of going to his house, he parked on the back side of a restaurant and coaxed me up the back stairs. As we reached the top, I heard someone singing John Legend’s “How High” and found a table set for two. He then asked me for a dance. As the song finished, he  got down on one knee.

He was so filled with emotion that he could hardly convey the words when he asked me to be his wife. I was so busy kissing him that I almost forgot to say yes! That’s when I heard my dad yell “Congratulations Carla!”  I looked up too see our closest friends and family at the top of a building across the street yelling and cheering. I was in complete shock! It was such a special experience and I was so thrilled to be able to share it with my friends and family.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Rob has been very involved in the wedding planning, which has allowed us to grow closer to one another.   We high-five each other a lot whenever we figure out how to handle something or cross something off our to-do list.  He’s the best co-chair a bride could ever ask for.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We had to learn that planning a wedding is like a business and it’s just something else we have to do during our day.  We also take a minute every chance we get to laugh, dance and sing.  We’re learning to enjoy the moment and I take a lot of picture to memorialize every step along the way.
