Joy Proposal Story: Cody & Alexandra

by Allie Grampa

What’s better than one proposal? Two!

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

In May of 2016, Alexandra took me on a surprise trip to a small beach in Florida. Don’t tell her, but I definitely knew it was coming. The bed and breakfast we stayed at had a beautiful back patio. It was covered in string lights and had a stone fire pit. I left to pick up our dinner and when I came back she had set out a book she had made that documented our relationship. When I was done looking through the book, she got down on one knee and proposed.

However awesome and joyous the wedding day will be, it is no match for how I hope the rest of my time here on earth with my partner is.

I ended up proposing to her one month later in Virginia Beach. We had gotten ready and left for dinner and drinks at a place right on the beach. When we got there the sun was going down and I suggested we walk down on the sand to watch it set. I ended up proposing right then and there. My proposal wasn’t as romantic, but I nailed the surprise factor.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Probably that moment right after you book a vendor. After we booked our venue I was giddy with excitement. I felt that after we booked our caterer and then right after we booked our photographer too. It’s like each time we choose and book a vendor we are taking one step closer to our day- it just feels so good. It also helps that I am type A and every time we lock down a vendor I feel like the ultimate crossing off the list moment just happened.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Staying organized and remembering to take one step at a time helps a lot.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy should last forever. What does that mean to you?

The wedding day is such a very tiny part of the big picture. However awesome and joyous the wedding day will be, it is no match for how I hope the rest of my time here on earth with my partner is. I think the process and pressures of planning the wedding sometimes makes you forget that.
