Joy Proposal Story: Danielle & William

by Cali Pitchel

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

William asked my boss for a day off on Friday, October 14. (Of course he approved!) Little did I know, Thursday night while I was with his sister getting my nails done, he packed me a weekend bag of clothes. He knew I would wear and be comfortable in, and he left the essentials for Friday morning when he broke the news about my surprise day off!

I must admit, I was so shocked I didn’t even believe him at first! Friday morning he told me to pack “an outfit for later.” I was thinking, “Okay, so we’re going to a nice dinner in Chicago or something.”

Love hard and live happily ever after.

After we drove for about four hours south, I figured we must be camping—but why would he only have me pack one outfit?! (Hint: It was all a trick.) Eight super fun, exciting road trip hours later, we ended up on top of a mountain in Gatlinburg, TN, where we first met, in a gorgeous cabin with an outside balcony and a gorgeous view. Did I mention the hot tub, outdoor fireplace, and pool table? We unpacked, settled in, and poured two glasses of wine. After an hour or so, William headed outside to get a few bathroom essentials he left in his car.

Meanwhile, I start the fire on the balcony and enjoy the perfect weather. On his way back inside, he changes the music to “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, walks out onto the balcony and hands me a box. I open it and there’s nothing inside (tricked again!). He then immediately drops down on one knee, and opens a light-up ring box. I burst into tears and accepted!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We are in the very early stages of planning, but so far I would say looking at all the beautiful venues is the best! I’m sure tasting cake will come to a close second!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

There are plenty of options to choose from regardless of what we’re trying to decide on. If it is meant to be it will happen. Plus, we have plenty of time – I can’t freak out already!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I’m excited for our friends and family to use the app and share all of their photos of our wedding! I also can’t wait to see how the RSVP option works because I think most people will use that vs paper trail.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I just started, but I would advise to check out other couples websites to be sure you are not missing out on asking any specific questions or leaving out any valuable information about your ceremony or reception. (Specific attire required, etc.)

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

At the end of the wedding day, we will only have our memories, pictures, and videos – not all of these will last forever so we must continue to enjoy every moment of every day with our spouse. You can never say “I love you” enough, so love hard and live happily ever after.
