Joy Proposal Story: Devon & Jen

“Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We planned a trip with our families to my favorite place, Beaver Lake in Arkansas. I used to go every year over the Fourth of July holiday with my family. This year I was determined to go because life had gotten in the way the last few holidays and we didn’t make it. I got everything planned to make it as easy as possible for everyone to go, including Devon and his mother. Devon had bought me a giant blow-up floaty flamingo (flamingos are my favorite) for our trip and I was so excited. We tied it to the dock at our lake house and used it every day to lounge and play on. We had been at the lake for a few days with beautiful weather, great family, and great friends. On the last afternoon of our trip, we all decided to take pictures on this ridiculous flamingo. Little did I know they were tricking me into getting in position.

“On a giant flamingo, at my favorite place, with my favorite people, I got to say yes to my forever. “

I was smiling for my picture when he put his arm around me with the ring in his hand and whispered in my ear, “Will you marry me?” I was so shocked and excited I felt as though I had been waiting forever for him to ask me and therefore the first thing I said, after tearing up, of course, was, “Thank you!” After a few hugs and tears, he asked me what my answer was. I then realized I hadn’t said the magic word and finally said, “Yes!” On a giant flamingo, at my favorite place, with my favorite people, I got to say yes to my forever. My future husband and best friend, Devon Paul Walke.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Breathe. When I get stressed I just take a moment and breathe.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The ease of changing things on the website.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Take your time and read the examples they have. You can delete them afterward but it helps to get an idea of what to write and include.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

This is all not about the wedding itself. Even if something goes wrong on our big day, it’s the joy of being together forever and the memories we make that really matter.
