Joy Proposal Story: Emily & Kacy

Joy Proposal Story: Emily & Kacy

Emily and Kacy met through a dating app that shall go unnamed. (Just kidding—we all know it was Tinder!) After swiping right, they decided to meet at a popular cocktail bar for what was supposed to be a quick drink. But one drink turned into dinner, and dinner turned into six hours of conversation. They had a ton in common, and both knew when they left that night they had each found their person.

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

I’ve been a Disney fanatic my whole life and had been to Disney World a bunch of times growing up. Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite. My fiancé had never been to Disney, so we went together in January 2016. I had tried for months to get a dinner reservation at Be Our Guest (they book up so far in advance!), but had settled for a lunch reservation instead. On our way to Disney, I tried one last time to get a dinner reservation and lucked out—we got the last possible table at 9:55 pm (they close at 10).

The day we arrived, my fiancé left the room to ‘get coffee.’ I later learned he was talking with Guest Services about his plan to propose at Be Our Guest. We get there and the dinner is delicious, the restaurant is beautiful, it’s everything I imagined. But Kacy is acting super weird, dragging out dinner until we were the only guests left in the restaurant (how rude, right?!). We finally order ‘the grey stuff’ from the song for dessert, and then a Cast Member comes to take us on a tour of the castle.

That’s when I knew something was up.

So we walk around, take some photos, and when we get back to the table they brought out a dessert plate with ‘Will you marry me?’ written in chocolate. A Disney photographer comes out and takes photos as Kacy gets down on one knee and asks me to be his wife. I was crying my face off and I don’t even remember what I said besides yes, eventually. It was honestly so magical and the photos captured it all. I was so surprised, and then he told me he had gone behind my back to custom make the ring with a local jeweler in our hometown all the way back in August 2014, and was waiting for the perfect time. I’m not one to want to be treated as a princess, but I wouldn’t change a thing about the proposal. It was perfect and I am so excited to be engaged to the love of my life!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

It’s been great to find out that our shared interests and opinions extend to our taste in weddings. From the music to how we want the day to go, we’re pretty much on the same thing about everything, which just solidifies that we’re meant to be together.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I basically treat it as a second job! The same things that work for me at work– using great tools, endless spreadsheets and lists, calendar appointments, etc. have allowed me to stay on top of it.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

It has been one easy place for us to gather and store the most important information about our wedding. It doesn’t hurt that the website we’ve built using Joy is pretty beautiful, either– we’re both in tech and suckers for great websites.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy should last forever. What does that mean to you?

This actually really resonates with something our photographer says: “Weddings are cool, but marriage is cooler.” We were both really intentional about deciding to get engaged because we want to be married, not because we want to have a wedding. We are in this for life, and while we’re stoked about our wedding, we’re actually more excited about our life together.
