Joy Proposal Story: Harriet & Jacob

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Jake planned a relaxing day to celebrate the end of exams and end of the year. I woke up with a dress, shoes and note on my bed that said to be ready by 11:15 . We went to watch glassworks which are amazing designs being melted and shaped, we had lunch at one of my favorite places on the lake, and then we went to the botanical gardens. Jake went to open the boot and grab out our picnic basket and said, “I forgot the picnic basket! I left it at home!”. So, we had drinks in the gardens and then went to play mini golf. Jake drove back to his house to pick up the basket so we could go to another spot he liked close to his house. Little did I know, he had planned the whole thing and was rushing inside to pick up the ring! His sister and family had spent the whole day planning and decorating the proposal set up. We walked down a path to see a beautiful set up with pictures, flowers and fairy lights. It was absolutely stunning! He knelt down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We spent the whole day having fun in each others company, with the best possible ending! There was a picnic set up on the grass with champagne, strawberries and cheese.  We sat for a little while to take it all in before Jakes family came down to congratulate us! We then went back to my house, where my parents were ecstatic and had a dinner with both families to celebrate! There were so many phone calls to family and friends which was exhausting but exciting! It was such a wonderful day.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Jake: Food, wine, and cake testing.

Harriet: Trying on my dress was the most special. My sister lives in London but was home for Christmas so we we went dress shopping whilst she was there. It was super special to have her there when I found the dress. It was rather emotional!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Communication is key. Involving and including others in the process helps. We have a family catch-up every now and then to keep everyone in the loop. It’s easy to get caught up in the organizational process, and lose sight of what it’s about.  It’s the day you start your new life together!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

We have guests from all around the world- UK, USA, New Zealand, Dubai and Singapore. It’s a great way to get RSVPs, organize guest lists, provide accommodations, food, and travel information.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Joy has so many templates to give you ideas regarding the information that guests would benefit from. It’s extremely helpful in the planning stages! We are still four months out from getting married, so we haven’t had to utilize the pre-wedding communication with guests yet!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Your wedding will be an incredible, emotional, special and wonderful day, but it’s just the beginning celebration of the rest of your lives together. On our wedding day, we will stand and vow to love each other forever. Joy isn’t a feeling of happiness in response to something, such as your wedding day. Joy is a feeling of contentment and gratefulness through hardships and happy moments. Getting married isn’t about that one special day. It’s about the two people choosing to love and care for one another, forever. We are excited to get married, for the adventures, for the moments, and for the memories to come!
