Joy Proposal Story: Jess & Lex

Joy Proposal Story: Jess & Lex

Who proposed?

Jess proposed, this was pre-determined and agreed upon because Alexis is quick to set her mind to something and doesn’t like asking questions she doesn’t know the answer to. Jess likes taking her time, so by the time Jess was ready to pop the question, Alexis would have been waiting for her to get on the same page.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

For New Year’s Eve we wanted to try out a couple of new year’s traditions from different cultures. Among them was a Russian tradition in which you write a wish on a piece of paper, burn it, throw it into your filled champagne glass and drink it before 12:01 to make it come true. Jess made a deal with Alexis that after we drank the champagne we would tell each other our wishes. Alexis went first (obviously) and then Jess shared that hers was “for her to say yes”. Jess presented the ring. Alexis, in disbelief and surprise, verified she was asking her to marry her. Jess confirmed and Alexis said, “Yes” Jess’ final spiel was that she wanted to ask the question at Midnight of New Year’s Eve because she wanted all of her adventures to begin and end with Alexis.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We’re planners so we just really like planning it all!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

What pressure? We make a shortlist of options, pick one that’s simple and suits us, and move on. We just feel that if your wedding is stressful, what’s the point? Whiskey doesn’t hurt, either.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The simplified guest list and RSVP features.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

The videos are quick and instructive. If you get impatient like Alexis and don’t care to read the instructions, the video spells it all out quickly and effectively. All of the tools are intuitive, just use the help features if you need guidance!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

This isn’t the beginning of it all or a new adventure for us. This is a big party to celebrate that we’re sharing the Full Monty, the grand adventure of life together. That’s something to be joyful about!
