Juanita and Cerleston first met briefly in high school. They reconnected 18 years later on Facebook (yes, you read that right). Juanita tells us about the surprise proposal and why joy isn’t just about the wedding.
Give us the details! When? Where? How?
He proposed at his friend’s house on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We were in town visiting family for the 2015 Thanksgiving Holiday. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, he looked at my hand and said I needed to get my nails done. (He had never done this before!) He took me for a manicure. His family was also planning a small party, which was odd because we just celebrated Thanksgiving. I knew he was about to propose and was plotting in my head how to pretend to be surprised because it was so obvious as to what he was about to do. But… HE DIDN’T!

The next day, Sunday, we planned to visit his best bud and his God children. We had planned this months in advance. coincidentally asked my best friend to meet me at the house. His friend was cooking a fabulous seafood dinner for us and we sat around drinking wine waiting for dinner to be served. When dinner was ready, Cerlest instructed us to gather ’round and say what we are all grateful for. We all took turns. When it got to him, he professed his love and gratitude for me being in his life and handed me a glass of champagne with my ring in the bottom. I was totally caught off guard.

Creating the website. It has allowed us to relive tender moments.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?
Do it together—make it a fun activity to do with your future husband. Men don’t particularly care about details and event planning, but trips down memory lane are nice.
