Joy Proposal Story: Katie & Eric

Joy Proposal Story: Katie & Eric

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We had gone on a trip up north for a family members birthdays and Eric had the idea that on the way back, we should stop for the night in Baltimore to hang out and go to the aquarium. When we got to Baltimore we couldn’t check into our hotel, which I thought was no big deal! I suggested that we just leave our stuff in the car and go explore around in our t-shirts and gym shorts. Eric was not having that! Little did I know he was just so nervous because he didn’t want to leave the ring in the car and he knew that when we got engaged I had always said I wanted to look cute in the pictures…and that day I was not looking so cute. We went to lunch then checked into the hotel and got ready for the rest of the day. We spent the day walking around the aquarium which was amazing! The whole time we were walking around though Eric had the ring box tucked into his sock….he was nervous that if he put it in his pocket I would be able to see. So poor Eric spend all day with this big ol’ box in his sock worried it would fall out. After the aquarium, we went and sat on a dock in the harbor. There was one other couple there and Eric asked them if they wouldn’t mind taking our picture (should have been a huge clue…he hates taking pictures!) This lovely girl took a photo and he said, “Wait, one more!” she knew what was coming because she saw him reaching for the ring…I still was oblivious. He got down on one knee on the dock and proposed and the tears just started flowing… I don’t think I even said yes right away because I was just so shocked. It was perfect and a total surprise.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

The time I’ve gotten to spend with my mom going over details and plans! We are already very close but planning this together has brought us even closer.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I’ve been lucky to have a pretty stress-free time wedding planning (knock on wood, we still have a few months until the big day!). But honestly, just having Eric here to keep my mind at ease is so perfect. I’ll stress about the little things like what fabric the table cloth should be, and he’s so chill it reminds me that at the end of the day nobody cares what fabric I pick for a table cloth, the only thing that matters is that we get to marry each other and celebrate that with all of our friends and family.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The site was so easy to create! Joy has already thought of everything you might need and has example text in there if you’re stuck on what to write.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Click through each of the icons on the dashboard! Some things I was like, “Hmm, might not apply to our big day”. Some things I was like, “I would have never remembered to send that information out!” The guest list is also amazing, you can couple people up and see exact numbers which is perfect for when you need to get final numbers in and make seating charts.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

I get to spend the rest of my life married to the most amazing man I’ve ever met! We have had so many memories together leading up to this day and so many more to make with each other in the future. No matter what life may throw our way, the ups and downs we might face, I know we will always have love, devotion, respect, and joy between us. That lasts for more than just one day.
