Joy Proposal Story: Kayleigh & Ali

Joy Proposal Story: Kayleigh & Ali

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

On day five of our eight-day trip to Ireland, we visited the Cliffs of Moher in all their glory. It was a cold, cloudy day and we hiked about a mile on the cliffs until we reached a cute little grassy knoll that was picture perfect and far enough from the other tourists. We had two of our best friends with us and we were able to snap some really great group photos. I (Kayleigh) was playing around near the edge of the cliffs for some silly and terrifying photos when Ali approached me from behind. She was shaky and breathing a little hard when she grabbed my hand and looked at me for a few seconds.

She took a step back and dropped to one knee holding this adorable little turquoise box. I’ll never forget my initial reaction was “no” as in a very cheery disbelief “no”. One that I didn’t mean in terms of an answer before the question! She opened the box and told me she loved our adventures together and asked, “Kayleigh, will you marry me?”. I cried which is something I very rarely do and gave a teary-eyed, “Yes!” It was the most exciting moment of my life in the most beautiful setting you could imagine. The coolest part? Just as we began hugging and kissing, the sun popped out to shine on us as a newly engaged couple. I took that as a sign that the universe approved of our newest adventure together.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We are certainly getting to know what makes the other tick, in terms of details and preferences. Registering for a new home has been a highlight so far! Making decisions together is very refreshing because we are both very considerate of each other and know when to give in. You really figure out what is important and what not to stress out on when you communicate and work as a team. We get reassured every day that we’re meant to be together!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Communication. Some things are more important to you or to your partner, so knowing when to give in and make small compromises certainly eases the pressures of planning a wedding. In the end, the goal remains the same. Staying happy and communicating even the smallest of ideas will go a long way.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The ease has probably been our favorite part of using Joy. It’s simple, it’s fun, and the end result is something we couldn’t have possibly envisioned on our own!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

It may take time and a few edits to create the wedding website you are perfectly happy with, just stick with it! It is certainly one of the more fun tasks of wedding planning so play with it and make it yours. It will be worth it once your guests compliment it over and over again!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

It’s so easy to get caught up in this one day that you spend months, sometimes years, planning. That one day will come and go in the blink of an eye and what you will have left is the love and joy you’ve built and nourished over the course of your relationship. The wedding is just the beginning. Joy is something you will have and look forward to for the rest of your lives together.
